The Situation

Since Day 1 at The Stable, we wanted to partner with hint, as we loved the brand’s positioning and message. We had strong faith in hint’s future, especially in brick-and-mortar retail.

Our Approach

We felt the brand’s story could be told more effectively and that it had the potential to become an anchor brand for the health and wellness segment at Target. In order to scale the business, however, the brand needed a strong operational foundation.

1. Operations

Developing an efficient, effective supply chain was key for hint. Shortly after kicking off, however, we received a call from the Target buyer that they would be cutting hint from all stores to make room for owned brands in the space.

Where many agencies would have taken the “L”, we dug in our heels. We believed in hint’s brand, product, and potential in becoming a core wellness partner for Target. We pushed for a test in direct store delivery (DSD), testing on the coasts in wellness-focused communities.

When most people would’ve given up, we pushed harder.

Our test confirmed our belief, showing significant consumer demand. Data in hand, we reconnected with the Target buyer to share the results and a comprehensive support plan, winning back planogram space in all stores.

Within 8 months, hint went from being in all stores, to being in zero, and back to full-chain rollout.

2. Strategy

Back on shelf, hint needed to perform in-line or above its test results. We prioritized promotional planning and seasonal executions to be top of mind for consumers and position the brand as a leader in the space.

We constantly strive to secure additional display space in stores to increase ROI. This added visibility is invaluable in driving awareness and consideration at Target. With these strategies in place, hint has become a key partner for Target and recently celebrated their best sales week ever.

Today, hint owns 4 feet of space in nearly all Target water POG spaces.

3. Creative

As Hint prepared to launch its newest product, sunscreen, we expanded our partnership into creative and marketing. Hint needed thumb-stopping visuals to share across its social and digital presence.

We concepted, planned, and produced a series of made-for-social images, gifs, and videos, showcasing “fun in the sun” via scent cues, packaging, and visual mashups.
